I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU for making my first Christmas at Ickle Ishy’s truly magical.
Due to lockdown, we were only able to open a couple of weeks before Christmas so I was slightly panicking that my boutique wouldn’t be busy. To my surprise though, we have been! I have met some lovely customers and have had the privilege of providing some gorgeous babies with their very first Christmas outfits.
It has been very refreshing to discover that local community spirit still exists. Even during these difficult times with the pandemic, it seems those who are able are trying to support local businesses and shop independently for their gifts this year.
As Lancashire along with many other parts of the country move into tier 4 it is more important than ever to support local independent businesses. If cinemas, cafes and restaurants are not open yet, can we buy gift vouchers to spend when they are open? Before we head to the supermarket can we use our local butchers or bakery? Are there any independent shops that sell what we normally buy off Amazon? Whether it’s a loaf of bread, bunch of flowers, a new outfit or a jar of jam, all independents would be immensely grateful for our custom.
My new shop neighbours have become friends and have even been as kind as to drop in some home cooked food in for me and my little boy on the days I have him with me. It is heartwarming to know that the old-fashioned sense of community still exists.
In the off-chance one of them is reading this I want to thank the bus drivers of Preston Bus. You make my sons day when you wave at him as you see him frantically waving and clapping for your attention when he is looking excitingly out the window!
To the customers who like, comment, tag and share your support for Ickle Ishy’s over social media I wish I could give you all a hug! It honestly means so much. It is acts of encouragement like that, that keep us small businesses going.
Preston Community Hub’s Shoebox Appeal
I can’t mention Christmas without mentioning the shoe box appeal. We were privileged to team up with Preston Community Hub to be an official drop off for their shoe box campaign. With unemployment rising and many people suffering the hardships that this pandemic has caused it was becoming apparent the local people of Preston needed some help this Christmas. So, the volunteers at Preston Community Hub set up a shoe box appeal. People could donate filled boxes, wrapping paper, toys, toiletries or any empty boxes that they had. Gifts would then be made up for newborn babies up to older teenage ages. The hub had a target of 200 completed boxes that they wanted to achieve. With the help of the Lancashire Post who promoted the appeal and the generosity of the local community over 400 boxes were donated!!
These beautiful boxes filled with a variety of goodies ranging from, toys, puzzles, pyjamas, socks, slippers, games, books and toiletries have been distributed to the local schools to give to the children who needed them most. There was even a surplus of donations which meant that they could give them to families with children who attend the last food bank at P.C.H on Samuel street, Fishwick, Preston on the Wednesday before Christmas day.
People of Preston you should be proud of yourselves for all that you have achieved this Winter. At Ickle Ishy’s we passionately believe in supporting our local community so if you know of any charities who we could support in the new year please email us and let us know.
Once again, I want to thank everybody who has visited our boutique, left us a Google or Facebook review, shared our posts and ordered online. It honestly means the world to us.
From my family to yours I want to wish you the best of wishes.
Love from Ellena @ Ickle Ishy’s.
